Antique Crescent Moon Pendant Or Fob

This antique piece was created from solid cast brass and it features a crescent moon and a star with a scroll worked edge. Crescent moons were used to symbolize many things including a honeymoon, a betrothal where you would want the romance to progress towards marriage (from a crescent moon to a full moon) and the changes a woman goes through in her lifetime.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this piece is that you would normally see them in gold or gold fill with stones set in them. This piece was created in a heavy solid cast brass with a gilt finish and no stones were added. Was it a poor mans version of a more expensive gift? Was it a pendant or a watch fob and that is why they gave it extra weight? I've not found another like it to determine more. It is a neat piece and would be a lovely sentimental gift. You can add your own flat back stones to it, or wear it as is on a necklace or bracelet. 

Condition: Very good condition. There is some wear to the gilt (especially the front) and some expected scratches.
