One of the neatest good luck gifts I have ever seen! Perfect for the Irish too. This is a sterling silver "Good-Luck" Whistle by Reed & Barton. The whistle is a pendant in the shape of a cluster of four leaf clovers. The pendant measures approx 3.25 inches tall (including the bail) and 2 1/8th inches wide. The pendant comes with a 34 inch long black satin cord.
I was able to track down a photo of the wording from the original packaging for this design. How wonderfully 1960's! It reads:
"Good-Luck" Whistle Pendant
Worn with a ribbon or a silver chain, Reed & Barton's elegant new "Good-Luck" Whistle is a many faceted talisman that not only adds a touch of fashion glamour to your appearance but also serves as a "silent sentinel".
For no one but you will know that the shimmering cluster of four-leafed clovers around your neck is also a whistle......until you use it....to hail a cab, to scare off a possible assailant, to summon your children or your dog.
The legend of the lucky four-leafed clover goes back to the Garden of Eden, where, it is said they flourished. When Adam and Eve were expelled from Paradise, Eve took a four-leafed clover with her, wishing to retain something that would remind her always of her happy existence in the "now lost Paradise". That is how its presence today has come to be looked upon as an omen of good luck.
It is in excellent condition. There is some patina to the sterling that you could polish if you like.
